1st Draft- drinking water

 Here is my first draft of my poster focusing on water! I'm highlighting that access to safe drinking water is a human right. I was really influenced/inspired by a comment made during critique last week that I think shaped my direction for this poster. Someone had brought up that my posters focused on things that are somewhat hidden, or under the surface. That idea made me think about how I could emphasize this dichotomy between the hidden and the aware. The bottom portion is what people tend to be unaware of: in this case unsafe drinking water than can lead to health issues and complications. On top is supposed to be clean, safe drinking water which there is a misconception that this is readily available to everyone. Though because of pollution, and because water is a finite natural resource that we are depleting. I had also separated the word "safe" from "drinking water" to imply that they are not synonymous. 

Some notes from critique that I plan on using for my next iterations:

-"safe drinking water" should be all on one line

-"human right" can be placed at the top and can be a unifying feature of all of my posters

    -showing what is a human right? ---> safe drinking water is, etc.

-add more color/texture to the bottom portion of the poster to really illustrate, dirty contaminated water

 (take inspo from how water looks like in Flint)

really excited to continue working on this poster! I think this separation between good and bad will also be a unifying feature in all of my posters!

Progress and Finalization!

 Slowly and steadily finalizing my first three posters! I think the most progress I have made this week has been in terms of typography. I'm using these three posters as the outline for my next three so I'm trying to nail down the design of these first before I move onto others, that way my posters can continue to be consistent. This week I have added some more type that provides some more context and insight into the problems created by each area of pollution. I have started in the water poster with insights from the World Health Organization. The text is the same brown as the murky water to blend in with the texture and truly illustrate how these negative affects are a direct result of contaminated drinking water. Some other changes I have made this week has been adding the QR codes which will link to a google doc of resources that I have begun compiling. Thinking about Ideas/Initial Film Research

 I loved watching the different films! I think this was a great way for me to collect some initial research based on what I learned. I watched the 3 films on Kanopy: Company Town, From Flint: Voices from a Poisoned City, and Plastic Planet as well as the other links that were given to us. Out of these additional materials, my favorite film was The Story of Stuff. I think this video did a great job of explaining the comprehensive view of how materials are made, why, where they do, how they affect us, etc. (Please see below for my notes on the films) One piece of information that has truly stuck with me throughout all of the films relates to plastic. This is something I am considering including in my plastic poster. The fact that the collective amount of all plastic made since the beginning of time could wrap around the whole Earth seven times. Narrowing It Down

As I continue writing my proposal I need to think less abstractly about my posters. I have begun to narrow down my topic. I think it is okay to begin abstractly but that can't be for the entirety of the project. I was recently going through my bookshelf and reorganizing and I came across my two old books from Environmental Justice (ENVIRON 222) that I took last year at the beginning of Sophomore Year. For some reason when approaching this class after learning our posters would be about the environment I did want to make the connection to my environmental justice class, as I have created work centered around it before and felt it was important to move on to a different topic. But after listening to my peers' discussions about their topics and how they are approaching this project, I have actually changed my mind (which is ok) and think connecting these posters to all that I learned in environmental justice would be really amazing and be the perfect way to tie all of these enviro...
