Progress and Finalization!

Image
Slowly and steadily finalizing my first three posters! I think the most progress I have made this week has been in terms of typography. I'm using these three posters as the outline for my next three so I'm trying to nail down the design of these first before I move onto others, that way my posters can continue to be consistent. This week I have added some more type that provides some more context and insight into the problems created by each area of pollution. I have started in the water poster with insights from the World Health Organization. The text is the same brown as the murky water to blend in with the texture and truly illustrate how these negative affects are a direct result of contaminated drinking water. Some other changes I have made this week has been adding the QR codes which will link to a google doc of resources that I have begun compiling. I have also made some of my illustrations more realized than before. I have rounded out the smokestacks and included more ...

Some New Realizations

This week were our first individual meetings with Franc! I met with him to discuss my new iterations which I have made progress on. Before our meeting I was a bit stuck because I was not super happy with the direction I was going in but now I think I have a clear understanding. Before my Franc meeting I had added some realism photos to the bottom portion of my posters as a way to clearly articulate the textures I was going for but now have realized them as a way to abstract these issues in a binary that is illustrated through this difference- realism vs. abstraction- with the realism being the issue and the abstraction representing the "good" surface level. In my posters everything represents a duality. I am going to alter my proposal with this new information.  Some notes I'm going to work on; Franc brought up a good point that my posters, though the imagery is there, are lacking in some contextual information. So this is what I'm going to work on for next week-addi...

2nd iteration + the series continues

Image
So this week I have made progress in that I have more poster drafts! BUT I still think I have a ways to go in developing my intent. What's interesting is that I had a similar problem in my Information Design class. My intent was in my head but it wasn't articulating on paper, so I'm almost there. I definitely know what I want to say through these posters but it isn't coming across as clearly to the viewer. It's like my posters tell half the story while the rest of it is in my head. I got some great feedback this week though that I'm going to take with me as I continue my iterations for next week. ** disclaimer wasn't necessarily happy with the outcome of these iterations BUT felt like they were necessary "experiments" in my process and that I have definitely made progress in pushing the idea Some of my favorite notes were that:  -the way water was represented in my first iteration might be even better.  I think this had to do with my fixation on i...
